Welcome to Technopolicy
Rules about technology are written by committees, courts and regulators, yet they land in the lives of people who never read the texts. Technopolicy exists to translate that distance. It follows how decisions about software, data and networks come about and what they mean for readers outside the room.
Technology Policy
This area looks at legislation, standards and the agencies that apply them. We try to explain who proposed a measure, what it requires and which questions remain open, with a link to the underlying document whenever one is public.
AI & Society
Automated systems now help decide who is hired, who is flagged and what people see. Here the focus is on how those systems are governed, who is accountable and what ordinary people can do when a result affects them.
Privacy & Security
Practical coverage of data protection duties, breaches and everyday safeguards. We prefer clear steps over alarm and note where a risk is real and where it is mostly noise.
Digital Economy
Platforms, payments, competition and work online shape markets in ways that are easy to miss. Articles in this section follow the incentives, the rules that constrain them and the effects on small businesses and consumers.
The readers we have in mind include students, small business owners, journalists and anyone who has been told that a new rule “changes everything” and wants to know whether it does. We define terms when we first use them, explain acronyms and say plainly when something is still only a proposal. Opinion is labeled as opinion, and summaries of official texts try to stay close to what the texts actually say.
We do not predict outcomes with false confidence. When experts disagree, we describe the competing views, note who holds them and avoid presenting one side as settled. Dates matter in this field, so articles show when they were last updated and what has changed since.
Pieces are checked against primary sources where possible and revised when facts or rules change. If you spot an error, tell us at [email protected] and we will review it and correct the page.
