SAM photoProf. Sultan Al-Mubarak obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the College of Dentistry at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1989. Subsequently he received his Specialty Certificate in Advanced Periodontics and the Master of Science in Periodontology with Excellent Performance Report from the University of Aarhus, Faculty of Health Sciences, Royal Dental College in Denmark in 1994.  In 1996, he went to the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA and obtained his first Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Periodontology (with distinction) in 1998.  Later he obtained the Clinical and Research Fellowship (with honors) in Dental Management of Medically Compromised Patients from the Division of Endocrinology at the Kaleida Health Hospital at State University of New York, USA in 2000.  In 2008 he passed the exam and obtained the degree of Certified Clinical Research Professionals (CCRP).

 

Dr. Al-Mubarak is a reviewer of several renowned local and international peer-reviewed journals and research organizations such as King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and the Deanship of Scientific Research at King Abdulaziz University and CLINICAL IMPLANT DENTISTRY and Related Research, USA. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Biological Therapies in Dentistry in the USA, an Editorial Board Member of peer reviewed American journals such as the International Academy of Periodontology and other local and international scientific organizations. He has a wide range of publications in peer reviewed high impact factor journals, one of which was recognized internationally and selected among many others by the British Committee for Standards in Haematology (BCSH) in 2006 to update their guidelines. He also has several articles participations in press release in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other international journals i.e. Middle East Business News. He participated in many worldwide meetings and conferences as an invited speaker.

 

Dr. Al-Mubarak received several major local and international, private and government grant funds to conduct research in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as in the United States. He is a recipient of several awards such as the Armed Forces Hospital’s Annual Research Award in the year 2000, the first to be given to a dentist since the hospital was established in the 1970s.

 

In 2005, Dr. Al-Mubarak received the Alumnus Certificate of Excellence from the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA, the first to be given to international dentist (non-American) for his research in the interaction between dental infections and systemic disease, a field that has recently received global scientific attention.

 

In 2008 and 2010, the President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology awarded Dr. Al-Mubarak and his research team with a Certificate of Merit for their international achievements.  He was also awarded with a letter of Thanks and Achievement by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia for his international achievements.

Dr. Al-Mubarak currently works as a consultant at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), King Fahad Medical City and as executive consultant at Badir Program for Technology Incubators. He also works both as Senior Clinical Scientist of the Technology Transfer Unit as well as consultant Periodontist at the Department of Dentistry of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre. He is consultant and coordinator at Nature Arabic Edition and Adjunct Professor at the School of Dental Medicine of the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA.
