Stough RogerProf. Roger Stough is currently University Professor at the School of Policy, Government and International Affairs at George Mason University (GMU). He also holds a position as University President at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) since 2012. Furthermore, Roger Stough is the Director of the State Economic Development Research Center since 2004.

 

Prof. Roger Stough obtained his Bachelor in International Trade and Economics from Ohio State University in 1964. Subsequently he received his Master degree in Economic Geography from the University of South Carolina in 1971 and a PhD in Geography and Environmental Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in 1978. In 2006 he received an Honorary Doctorate from Jonkoping University (Jonkoping, Sweden). His research specializations include leadership and entrepreneurship in regional economic development, regional economic modelling and transport analysis and planning. During the past 10 years Dr. Stough has been heavily involved in China and India in the development of research entrepreneurship training and education programs including advising enterprise development and incubation centers there.

 

His publication record includes several hundred scholarly and professional publications and he has authored or edited more than 30 books with sponsored research and matching awards totalling more than $80,000,000 from a variety of sources in the U.S. and abroad. He has supervised and/or participated on numerous PhD dissertation committees and his students hold various positions around the world including professional and administrative posts in universities, government agencies, corporations, think tanks and international donor agencies.

 

Dr. Stough served as President of the Regional Science Association International (2007-2008) and has been joint editor-in-chief of the Annals of Regional Science since 1994.  He holds a variety of other editorial positions.

 

Previous positions held by Dr. Stough at the School of Policy, Government and International Affairs included Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Director of the Institute of Public Policy and Director of new campus operations in Arlington. Dr. Stough also fulfilled positions as Vice President for Research and Economic Development at GMU; President of George Mason Intellectual Properties Inc.; NOVA Endowed Chair, Eminent Scholar and Professor of Public Policy; Director of the Mason Enterprise Center for Entrepreneurship and Regional Analysis; Director of the National Center for ITS Deployment Research and Transportation and Regional Economic Development. Dr. Stough has also been the founding director of several research centers, all of which are still operating.
