Kees Eijkel is President of Stichting Kennispark Twente since 2006. Kennispark Twente is the ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation in and around the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with the province of Overijssel, the Twente Region and the city of Enschede. His portfolio includes start-ups & growing companies and knowledge transfer. He is also Managing Director of Holding Technopolis Twente since 2006. This organization holds and manages the participation of the University of Twente in spin-offs and organizations for commercialization support.
His interest in entrepreneurship led him to the University of Twente, because they focused on innovation since its foundation in 1961. Previous functions at the University of Twente included positions as Assistant Professor in Micro Mechanics and Director Clean Room where he directed the merger of the S&A laboratory with the IC laboratory.
He holds a number of executive and non-executive positions in foundations and companies involved in innovation. He is board member and past president of the international foundation for commercialization of emerging technologies in micro and nanotechnology MANCEF. Before Kennispark, he was technical-commercial director of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology. From 1999 till 2007 he has been CEO of Microsystem Technology Foundry (MTF). MTF builds and manages labs and offices for nanotechnology spin-off companies around the University of Twente.
